Scenario notebooks for staffing moves you might regret
By Jonah Reeves
Capacity planning tools often pretend that every staffing move is reversible with a slider drag. Reality includes morale debt, training debt, and vendor dependencies that spreadsheets forget.
NorthSpan attaches a notes column to every scenario branch. Teams paste Slack excerpts (redacted), links to incident records, or reminders about collective agreements. The notes travel when a scenario graduates from draft to approved, so future-you understands why a risky bet looked reasonable in March.
We also expose a diff view between scenarios instead of a single merged table. Side-by-side framing keeps debates grounded: which initiatives lose coverage if contractors shrink, which sites absorb the slack, and where automation already changed the baseline.
Finally, we encourage printing the board pack. Paper removes the temptation to tweak numbers live during a tense meeting. The printed snapshot becomes an artifact external reviewers can file alongside other operational evidence.
